The Department

Welcome to St Gregory’s Drama Department. Drama is a subject that challenges pupils to work creatively both as individuals and as teams. Although primarily the focus within the curriculum is centred around planning, performing and evaluating drama performance, we firmly believe that drama consistently provides opportunities for pupils to come to terms with themselves and the world in which they live. We aim to inspire pupils and find that they enjoy the creativity and the excitement which are key components of our lessons.

Lower School

Throughout KS3, pupils are taught for an hour per week in their form groups. Scripted drama, improvisation skills and physical theatre are covered in every year group. Topics currently range from The Holocaust and Village Under Threat in Year 7, The Detectives and Fables in Year 8 to The Identification and Antigone in Year 9. Assessment of pupil learning and understanding is made at the end of each half-term.

GCSE

Pupils can opt to continue Drama at GCSE level and we currently have 140 pupils across Year 10 and 11 studying the course. The course is an exciting programme including devised work on various topics, scripted pieces, public performances and theatre trips. Pupils have two hours of drama a week in Year 10, increasing to three hours in their final year.

All practical assessments are conducted in Year 11 and our chosen exam board is Edexcel.
