Mission Statement

‘This is our God, the servant King.  He calls us now to follow him’

The students, parents, governors and staff of St. Gregory’s Catholic High School strive to work in partnership to create a living and vibrant community in which each member is valued.  At the core of every aspect of school life is the belief that we can have no better inspiration than the example and teaching of Jesus Christ.  Our community seeks to set an example of service, as Jesus did, and in so doing fulfil the high aspirations we have for each of our members and foster the fullest spiritual, academic and personal development of our students.

The paramount aim of St. Gregory’s is to provide an experience of Christian community in which is established a spirit of mutual trust and co-operation: thus, will be fostered the fullest spiritual, academic and personal development of our students.  Students, parents, governors and staff are in partnership.  The sharing of common goals is essential to the well-being of our community and to the fulfilment of the high aspirations we have for all our students.

‘Pupils embrace the demands that membership of the school community expects. In their own words, this is because mission is, “about who we are and why we are here, and the values we share.’ (Section 48 Catholic Inspection, 2019)

The clear yet profound justification for a Catholic education, and for a Catholic school as a separate entity, is to be found in the Catholic faith.  The Catholic school seeks its definition in the Gospels and the example and teachings of Christ.  It is from this foundation that St. Gregory’s faces the cultural conditions and challenges of contemporary society.

‘The extent to which the pupils contribute to and benefit from the Catholic Life of the school is outstanding.’ (Section 48 Catholic Inspection, 2019)

The Catholic ethos of St Gregory’s is at the centre of all we do as a school community, and following the teachings of Christ through daily worship, we aim to create a vibrant and inclusive community where all members are valued.

‘Pupils are at home in this school because its Catholic Life is fully inclusive of all ranges of beliefs and views.’ (Section 48 Catholic Inspection, 2019)

Our SEAL agenda (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) encompasses all that we try to promote and encourage as a Catholic school as SEAL is rooted in our Catholic beliefs and values.

As part of our respect agenda all members of our community promote the social and emotional skills which we believe underpin staff/student/parent relationships; effective learning, positive behaviour and regular attendance.

The five categories of SEAL are: Self-awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills and our whole school approach is encapsulated in SEAL it with Respect!’

SEAL helps our students to be:

  • effective, successful learners
  • self-motivated, co-operative workers
  • respectful, understanding tolerant young adults

They are students who:

  • make and sustain friendships
  • deal with and resolve conflict effectively and fairly
  • solve problems with others and by themselves
  • manage strong feelings
  • are optimistic, recover from setbacks and persist in the face of difficulties
