To support our pupils to accelerate their progress in reading, we have made provision for extra-curricular support through our paired reading mentoring programme. This programme introduces pupils from years 7 and 8 to a group of our most able readers from years 9 and 10 who act as their mentors. The sessions are spent reading aloud together, discussing texts, making predictions and exploring new vocabulary. Beyond the obvious advantage of developing progress in literacy, this intervention programme will help pupils to access the broader school curriculum through enhancing confidence, social awareness and oracy skills.
All Y7 pupils follow a Literacy Scheme of Work in the LRC.
